THE INTRODUCTION

This Intriguing Woman - “The Garden of Amytis” website is dedicated to the woman who inspired the building of the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, the only one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World to be built simply as an expression of love.

History tells us almost nothing about this woman, and almost nothing about the legendary Gardens she inspired. After having exhausted my search for historical facts, and finding almost none, I began to wonder what kind of amazing woman she must have been, to inspire a legend that endured for 2600 years.

“The Garden of Amytis” is what I imagined, the story of this woman and her amazing life, and what her Garden might have looked like. I’ve tried to provide as much historical reference as possible, too, so you can see how little is known, how much is not, the mysteries surrounding this woman and her Garden, and how my imagination tried to explain the mysteries that history keeps hidden from us.
